Do I need a contract?

Yes! It doesn’t matter if you’re a full-time entrepreneur or or working freelance, if you’re exchanging money for products or services (i.e. running a business), then you need contracts to legally protect yourself. Contracts ensure all parties are on the same page from the start, and have terms to refer back to, if things don't go according to plan.

How do I know if your contracts are right for me?

Our legal contract templates are designed for new and seasoned business owners. Whether you’re just starting out or just starting to cover your legal bases, these contract templates can help you protect what you’ve built.

However, these templates aren’t for people who are looking for personal legal advice or who need to hire their own lawyer. Although our founder Jaime is a lawyer, she is not your lawyer and won’t be able to provide you with personal or business legal advice.

I'm a Canadian or US based entrepreneur but my clients aren't in the same country as me, can I still use these contract templates?

Yes! These contract templates were created for Canadian  and US based businesses and entrepreneurs, no matter where in the world your clients are located! There is a specific clause in our templates that confirms that the laws of your specific location will govern your agreement, subject to certain laws we have to adhere to!

Who created these contracts?

The contract templates were created by Jaime Bell, a business lawyer and entrepreneur with over a decade of business law experience under her belt. You can learn more about Jaime here. Each template has been carefully reviewed and drafted intentionally with you and your industry in mind, in language that you and your clients will understand.

Will I still need a lawyer if I purchase your templates?

Our contract templates are very thorough, but they are not a substitute for legal advice from your own licensed lawyer. If you’re looking for legal advice that’s specific to your personal situation, you should seek the advice of a local lawyer licensed where you live and work who knows what you do. Our contract template are a great start, and if you find you need tailored legal advice, we recommend you reach out to a lawyer or attorney local to you.

Is Jaime my lawyer or will she give me legal advice if I buy a contract template or bundle?

No. Jaime is not your lawyer and you have no client-lawyer relationship with her if you purchase any Contract Market templates or other products. Unfortunately, Jaime cannot give you legal advice on your personal or specific business situation.

Contracts Market Inc. is not a law firm, nor is not meant to be an alternative to traditional legal services. If you need legal advice that’s specific to your personal situation, you should seek the advice of a local lawyer or attorney licensed where you live and work who knows what you do.

Do you offer refunds?

No, sorry.  Due to the electronic format of our products, we do not provide refunds. We recommend reaching out to us before purchasing if you have any questions or wonder which template is best for your business. That being said,  if you are unsatisfied for any reason, please contact us at support@thecontractsmarket.com as I want to ensure that you are happy with your contract.

I live in Quebec, can I use your template?

Unfortunately, these templates are not for use by Quebec residents.

I’m not good at legal stuff. How do I use your templates?

I didn't think you would be if you aren't a lawyer! That's exactly why I created Contracts Market!

Each contract template comes with a colour-coded how-to guide written in plain English that will walk you through how to customize your contract. All you need to do is give yourself about 30 minutes to an hour to read over your template and edit it to fit your business’ unique structure and processes. Once you’ve customized and reviewed your contract, it’s ready to go! You can start using it by uploading it to your CRM or emailing it to your clients directly for e-signing.

How much time will it take me to set up your contract?

On average, it takes about 30 minutes to an hour to review and customize their contract for the first time. Once it’s customized it should only take a couple of minutes each time you need to send it out to new clients. Our advice? Get cozy. Make a cup of tea, settle in on the couch, and have fun making them yours. These documents act as your legal foundation so give yourself the time and space to get them just right.

How do I get my contract templates?

When you purchase a Contracts Market template, you’ll instantly get an email with a zip file with your template and a how-to guide to help you get started. So easy, right?

Can I share my template with a friend?

That’ll be a no. When you purchase our contract templates you get a limited license to use the template in your business only. This means that you cannot share or sell your template with others. These templates are for you and you alone. Just like you wouldn’t want anybody to take your hard work and give it away for free, we’d appreciate it if you’d show us the same respect. For those who want to recommend out templates, you should sign up for our Affiliate Program and earn commission for your recommendation!

How long do I have access to my contract template?

Forever! Once you purchase a Contracts Market template or bundle, it’s yours to keep. We recommend saving an original version so you always have access to it easily.

What happens if the law changes?

Good question! Just like in business, the law is ever-changing and so it is your responsibility to keep up to date with changes that may affect your business. However, when you buy a contract template from us, we will send you an updated contract template whenever we make changes to it, either because the law changes or based on feedback from other business owners. By purchasing one of our contract templates, you will always have access to the most up-to-date contract template we offer.

Is my contract legally binding?

Yes, as long as you get both parties to sign.

What if my client requests changes to my contract?

Before sending your contract out, it’s a great idea to discuss some of the high level items in your contract with your client first, so there aren’t any surprises, like payment terms or copyright ownership in the works you create. If your client requests any changes that you are OK with, you can make those changes before sending your contract to them. If there are major changes, or you aren’t sure how those changes might affect your rights, we recommend hiring a local lawyer to discuss these changes, before agreeing to them.
